HomeNewsCelebrating 175 Years of Pfizer: A Legacy of Innovation and Care

For 175 years, Pfizer has been a trusted partner in healthcare – discovering, developing, and delivering medical breakthroughs to prevent, treat and cure some of the world’s most vexing conditions and diseases.  We advanced manufacturing capabilities to produce large quantities of penicillin needed to protect American troops during World War II.  Brought game-changing statins to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.  Created an innovative breast cancer therapy that has been given to more than half a million women and men globally. And changed the course of history by delivering the first safe and effective mRNA vaccine against COVID-19.  Pfizer’s products have changed he lives of billions of people around the world and made what was once unimaginable imaginable.

We have grown and flourished because patients and healthcare workers know if a product is made by Pfizer, they can trust it has been meticulously researched, painstakingly developed, and produced to the highest quality standards in the industry.

The world has changed a lot over the last 175 years, and we’ve learned a lot.  At Pfizer, we learn new things every day – that’s the beauty of science.  But one thing that has not changed since the day of our founding, and never will, is our commitment to the patients who need us.  We know that what we do matters, in the most fundamental ways, and we take seriously our obligation to do what’s right for our patients.  We consider serving them both a sacred obligation and a true privilege.

As proud as we are of what we have brought to the world over the past 175 years, we are even more excited about what lies ahead – about what conditions and diseases we can prevent, treat, or cure.  We have our sights set on many, but none with more determination than cancer, which claims 10 million lives a year globally.  We are excited about the unprecedented confluence of technology, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ground-breaking therapies, which we intend to harness in the fight against cancer.

Pfizer’s legacy is being a force for good in the world.  We aspire to do a lot of good for a lot of people in a lot of places. In fact, no other industry has or can positively impact the lives of more people in more places than ours.  Pfizer alone reached more than 1.3 billion people with our medicines and vaccines last year. That’s approximately one out of every six people on earth.  Such is the unique power of medicine.

For 175 years, Pfizer has stood between patients and disease, but we are more energized than ever.  We are gratified to have touched so many lives over the years, but we know we’re just getting started.
